Potions of the Caribbean by Jeff Berry
(2014) A look at how tiki was born of Caribbean drinking culture and western colonialism in the region. Though not imbued through the entire narrative, this book does recognize the role played by the dark forces of imperialism and whiteness in the making of twentieth-century tropical drinks. Like all of Berry’s work, there are many valuable references to drinks that had gone dormant for some years in the later twentieth century but that returned during the tiki revival of the last 20 years.
