Fancy Apple Brandy Cocktail
Adapted from Jerry Thomas’s 1862 Fancy Brandy Cocktail recipe, this variation on an Old-Fashioned puts boiled cider in the role of sweetener, which lends a certain dimension to the whole.
INGREDIENTS
2 oz. apple brandy
¼ oz. (scant) boiled cider
½ teaspoon Curaçao
2 dashes Angostura bitters
ABV LEVEL
Combine all in mixing glass. Add plenty of ice. Stir and strain into a rocks glass and add a large cube. Using a vegetable peeler, take off a wide piece of lemon peel. Using both hands, squeeze the oils out of the peel and onto the drink by pinching it between your thumbs, fore- and middle-fingers, peel side out, over the glass. Then drag the peel around the rim of the glass and discard peel.
