Grenadine (FD version)

Homemade grenadine is a thing of beauty. This recipe was adapted from the house recipe at Fort Defiance, which was derived from the NoMad’s recipe. We used this grenadine in our Tom Bullock month back in April of 2021. He was a great fan of grenadine.

INGREDIENTS

½ cup organic pomegranate juice
¼ cup white sugar
¼ cup demerara sugar, such as Sugar in the Raw
½ -1 oz pomegranate molasses, to taste, such as Alwadi brand*
Orange flower water*

* You can make a pleasant grenadine without these items, but using them will create a much more complex syrup.

Yield: about 1 cup

Combine juice and both sugars in a pot. Simmer and stir until sugar is dissolved. If using, stir in pomegranate molasses. If using orange flower water, use a dropper to add 2-4 drops (it's very potent) and stir into grenadine. Date, label and store in fridge.
