Italian Apple Fix

This drink was developed as part of my Autumn Aperitivo class. It’s a fix built on apple brandy, lemon and orange juices, and maple syrup, served over crushed ice with an amaro float and a generous grating of nutmeg. It’s really good.

INGREDIENTS

1½ oz. apple brandy
¾ oz. lemon juice
¾ oz. orange juice
½ oz. maple syrup
½ oz. amaro*, to float
Nutmeg, for garnish

ABV LEVEL

Combine apple brandy, lemon and orange juices, and maple syrup in a shaker. Add plenty of ice, seal, and shake vigorously for 15 seconds. Double strain (simultaneously strain through a cocktail strainer and fine mesh strainer) into a double rocks glass. Top with crushed ice, creating a mound on top, and add a short straw. Pour ½ oz. amaro on top. Garnish with fresh nutmeg.

* try one of these:Averna, Braulio, Meletti, Ramazzotti, Amaro Abano, Amaro CioCiaro, Sfumato Rabarbaro, or Argalà.
