Mai Tai

Adapted from TIKI: Modern Tropical Cocktails by Shannon Mustipher, based on Trader Vic’s

The Mai Tai is Victor “Trader Vic” Bergeron’s most famous creation and one of the great drinks of the tiki canon. Rum expert Shannon Mustipher’s version offers the ingenious introduction of a small measure of unaged rhum agricole. I’ve made just a couple of slight alterations based on our supply list.

INGREDIENTS

2 oz. aged rum
½ oz. rhum agricole blanc or white rum
½ oz.
“apriçao” or Curaçao
½ oz. lime juice
½ oz.
orgeat
Lime shell, for garnish
Mint bouquet, for garnish

ABV LEVEL

Combine all in a shaker. Add cubed ice, seal, and shake, for 15 seconds. Dump the mixture into a double rocks glass. Garnish with a mint bouquet and a lime shell.
