Simple Syrup

Simple syrup is the most elemental of all cocktail syrups. It adds sweetness without adding much flavor, allowing other ingredients to shine.

INGREDIENTS

½ cup white sugar*
½ cup hot water, just off the boil

*you can use pure cane sugar, but may need to heat it a bit on the stove, as it doesn’t dissolve as easily as white sugar. It also has a slightly less neutral flavor than white sugar.


Yield: about 1 cup

Combine sugar and hot water in a heat-safe container or bowl and stir until completely dissolved. Date, label, and store in the fridge.
