Surf Rider Sling

I noticed this description under a Hawaiian Room drink called the Okoolehao Sling–“A zingy sling of gin and juice in a real coconut”–and took it as a prompt. I wanted to create a fruity coconutty flash-blended drink with a gin base and I couldn’t be happier with the results! Though it does appear in tiki drinks, I see coconut as belonging more to the non-tiki tropical canon we’re (mostly) focusing on this month.

INGREDIENTS

1½ oz. dry gin
¾ oz. lime juice
¾ oz. passionfruit syrup
½ oz. coconut cream
¼ oz. banana mix
¼ oz. pineapple syrup
3 dashes Angostura bitters
5 drops saline (or a pinch of salt)

Garnish: pineapple frond, pineapple rind, nutmeg

ABV LEVEL

Flash blend for 8 seconds with 3/4 cup pebble or crushed ice. (Alternatively, you can whip shake the drink.) Dump into a Collins glass (or tall ceramic tiki mug). Top with more pebble or crushed ice. Garnish and serve with a straw.
