Bitter Frenchman

Back in February 2020, I had a wonderful trip to the region where Cognac is produced. This drink, a sort-of Negroni, is my recollection of that week in a glass.

INGREDIENTS

1¼ oz. Cognac (VSOP)
1¼ oz. Lillet rosé apéritif*
½ oz. Aperol
¼ oz. Suze
Lemon twist, for garnish

ABV LEVEL

Combine all in a mixing glass and stir for 20 seconds. Strain into a Nick & Nora glass or coupe and garnish with a lemon twist.

*I originally developed this drink to use rosé wine, but it’s much improved by the Lillet Rosé, which bolsters the bitter elements in the drink. (It is still quite pleasant with rose, though, if that’s what you have on hand!)
