Lottie Pickford
The Mary Pickford appears in the Sloppy Joe’s books–a mix of rum, grenadine, pineapple, and maraschino liqueur. I took that inspiration, subbed crème de cacao in for the maraschino, added lime for acid, and a small measure of Cognac for vanilla and dried fruit notes. Pickford was a movie star, director and producer; I named this after her little sister, Charlotte, who was also an actor.
INGREDIENTS
1½ oz. aged white rum
½ oz. Cognac
¾ oz. crème de cacao
¾ oz. pineapple juice
¾ oz. lime juice
¼ oz. grenadine
4 drops saline
Garnish: chocolate and Angostura bitters float; a cherry on a pick and edible flowers
ABV LEVEL
Combine all in a tin. If you have a flash blender (or handheld milk frother), flash blend with 1⁄2 cup pebble ice for 8 seconds. If you don’t have a flash blender, add a few pieces of pebble ice and a couple regular ice cubes and “whip-shake” hard for 15 seconds. Dump into a hurricane- or snifter-style glass. Mound more ice on top and dash with bitters. Mound more ice, if needed, add a straw, and garnish with a cherry and flowers.
