Rich Demerara Syrup

Rich demerara syrup pops up a lot in the tropical genre and beyond. We used it in our 1930s- and ‘40s-inspired Tiki Month (June 2021).

INGREDIENTS

1 cup of turbinado or demerara sugar
½ cup hot water

Yield: approximately ¾ cup

Place sugar in a small saucepan. Add hot water and stir. Set on low heat, stirring frequently, until sugar has completely dissolved (but no longer). Allow to cool completely before using.
