The Scottish Play

Theater people will know about the superstition around saying the title of a certain Shakespearian tragedy set in Scotland. Scotch gets along very well with honey, ginger and floral flavors. Add a touch of smokiness and this hot toddy riff really shines.

INGREDIENTS

1 oz. Scotch mix
¾ oz. Drambuie
¾ oz. dry vermouth
½ oz.
ginger-honey mixture
4 oz. Chamomile tea
Lemon twist, for garnish

ABV LEVEL

Boil water. Separately, brew a strong, short cup of chamomile tea. Set timer for 4 minutes. Fill the tea cup / mug you’re going to make your toddy in with hot water. In yet another vessel (such as a double rocks glass), pour a few ounces of hot water. Combine Scotch, Drambuie, dry vermouth and ginger mixture in a metal cup, such as a small shaker tin. Stir briefly. Carefully place the tin into the rocks glass of hot water. Stir periodically while your tea steeps; this will bring the temperature of the ingredients up. Toss out the warming water from your tea cup / mug. Pour in the Scotch mixture and the chamomile tea. Garnish with a lemon twist, expressing the oils before twisting it up and draping it over the lip of the mug.
